Ibadan was founded in 1826 on the site of an Egba Agura town by a mixture of Ife,, Oyo and Ijebu (Johnson,1921: 238; Awe, 1967). The Ife were expelled in a civil war, and Ibadan has been, in culture at least, an Oyo town ever since.
