Kaliere Siege of Falaba circa 1880

Most unsettling of all perhaps was the appearance in Sierra Leone of the Sofa cavalry of the powerful Mandingo king, Samori, the great enemy of the French on the Niger. Using arms bought in Freetown, he helped the King of Kaliere to besiege Falaba in the 1880s.
