Assassination of Benigno Aquino 1983

Returning from exile, Philippine opposition leader Benigno Aquino was assassinated as he stepped off an airplane (August). His killing, probably by government agents, generated massive public opposition to Ferdinand Marco's dictatorship and would make it possible for his widow, Corazon Aquino, to lead her country into the Philippine Revolution.
