This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, South Africa. South Africa gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1910. Some of the territory had been under British colonial rule since 1806. Dutch settlers (Afrikaners, also called "Boers" at the time) also formed independent republics in the 19th century.
